(Yaxley Old Brick Pit Embankment Collecting) - 2002

The Old Brick Pit, once a place of superb collecting is little more than a reservoir today, the water is dangerously deep, but along the edges of the old Quarry are small dykes and embankments, there is also a fairly large surface area of clay which is often washed by the rain. These are the types of places that collecting is best suited. There are lots of belemnites, Crinoid pieces and shells, but the best fossils would have originally been at the bottom of this pit.

EQUIPMENT

TOOLS
: A pick and knife are very handy when looking in the clay, mostly though all you really need is a good eye, fossils are mostly found either scattered on the surface or poking out of embankments and dykes.

CONTAINERS: Fossils from Yaxley can be placed into small containers, any fragile fossils such as shells should be separated and wrapped well.
