LOCATION

Taking 'New Road' off the A165 to reach the B1229, a road leads down to the village of Speeton and you can park along the road at the bottom of the village and walk to the beach. Alternatively you can park at the Holiday Village at Reighton Gap and then proceed along the beach until you reach Speeton. This is mostly the best option.

EQUIPMENT

TOOLS
: A knife and pick should be taken ideal for the Speeton Clay. A small trowel is also useful though most fossils can be simply lifted from the clay. The Clay can become very sticky, especially after heavy rain at the base of the cliff, suitable footwear should be worn.

CONTAINERS: Fossils are quite fragile, separate containers filled with fine sand are ideal for the fragile fossils and small plastic bags are useful for less fragile fossils.

(Speeton) - 1994

SAFETY AND DANGERS

Common sense when collecting at all locations should be taken and knowledge of tide times should always be noted. Care should be taken of tide times especially in winter months and of soft areas, especially after a high tide or heavy rain at the base of the cliff. Climbing the cliff is not recommended and often very dangerous.
