4th September 2004 - Newhay Quarry |
This UKF event was open to all, and everyone found at least one decent specimen. Our first trip was to 'Newhay Quarry', our leader, Brian Cook showed the team evidence of the 'Marine Band', where ripple marks can be seen throughout the quarry. Trace fossils such as the marks of fish which brushed the surface as they once swam past are also very common. There was plenty of Calamities for everyone to take back (Fossil roots), and members cracked open many nodules found at the bottom of scree scopes which often contained good brachiopod specimens. A couple of insect remains also recorded during our trip along with worm tubes.

4th September 2004 - Besom Hill |
This UKF team went to a second location during the afternoon, this was not far from Newhay Quarry, and only a short drive away. We examined the beds at Besom Hill. Several members found Calamities although many specimens were poorly preserved. Some plant material was also found, but this was only fragmented. Overall fossils at this site are not common.

5th September 2004 - Offerton, Stockport Stream Section |
Everyone was pleased at their finds from Offerton, members took it in turn to collect from the beds at the top, in which well preserved, superb ferns were found. Due to the small exposures, there was limited collecting to ensure everyone had an equal chance of taking back some good finds. A couple of members collected a two possible species of insect.
