LOCATION
Shapwick Grange is just to the West of Lyme Regis. It can be accessed from the A3052, the quarry is a working quarry so permission will be required to visit this. However finds can also be made along the footpath along the farm field. From Lyme Regis, the location can be easily spotted by the large quarry on the left. This can be seen whilst driving down a large hill. It is near 'Pinhay Farm' but before the 'Charton Crossroads'. There is a small lay by on the right and from here, it is possible to walk down the hill. At the bottom of the hill is a footpath leading to the Quarry (at this point, the quarry is obscured by a large area of trees' |

Keep an eye open whilst walking to the quarry, the farm land here is full of flints and chalk fragments. Most of the fossils at Shapwick Grange are found in flint and you are likely to find more along the field than at the quarry. Keep to the footpath. Corals can be found within flint along with echinoids and shells, these can also be found at the quarry, but most of the chalk here is unfossiliferious. There are several farms in the area, all with public footpaths, the best time to look is after the field has been ploughed.
EQUIPMENT
TOOLS: For collecting from the field, just a keen eye, for collecting at the Quarry, a hammer and chisel.
CONTAINERS: Fossils are quite hard and mostly within flint, these can normally just be placed into bags. |

SAFETY & DANGERS
Common sense when collecting at all locations should be taken. Field collecting is quite safe, though be careful for any farm traffic. At the quarry, it is essential to wear hard hats, stay away from the cliff faces and from machinery, be careful at the bottom of the quarry in areas of soft water logged chalk |
