(Hillington chalk pit) - 1995
|
LOCATION
Hillington Chalk pit can be found just north of Kings Lynn. Follow through the town of Hillington and turn down the B1153. You will pass a church, continue down this road and the chalk pit is to the East. |
The chalk is upper chalk, 3-6m below the Plenus Marl. Zones are of the Calycoceras naviculare. Most of the fossils are broken here, especially those of Echinocorys sphaerica.
A hard nodular bed which is immediately above from the Lower Turonian, yields Lewesiceras peramplum.
|
EQUIPMENT
TOOLS: A Hammer and chisel for the chalk and a knife, or pick also come in handy. Suitable footwear should also be worn.
CONTAINERS: Fossils from the Chalk are usually hard but can be soft after heavy rain fall, they should be wrapped well and placed into bags. |

SAFETY
Common sense when collecting at all locations should be taken. Please ensure you follow the national safety guide when visiting quarries and pits, ensure you wear hard hats, suitable footwear and florescent jackets. Stay away from wet and water logged areas of the quarry, for you could end up being stuck in mud. Keep away from machinery and moving vehicles. |
